Normal people can help fight against marine biodiversity loss in their everyday lives. Eating less and more sustainable seafood will help to combat the problem of overfishing. Eating less meat in general will help lessen greenhouse gas emissions (from the transport energy and from the cows themselves) and will also help to reduce waste runoff and eutrophication (large algal blooms). Using less fertilizer on your lawn especially if you live close to waterways will help to lessen runoff and nutrient pollution which can lead to eutrophication and dead zones. Make sure to use more efficient energy sources- like more efficient lightbulbs- in your house and get a more energy efficient car if you can to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Limit water waste, litter, and pollution as much as possible to lessen negative impacts. Finally, remember to always reduce, reuse and recycle to make our way of life more sustainable!
