There are a vast array of problems afflicting the oceans today, but some of the most notable ones include climate change (from global warming and ocean acidification), overfishing (including shark finning), shoreline degradation, eutrophication, plastic pollution and invasive species. All of these factors contribute to declining populations of marine species which leads to a decrease in diversity. Loss of diversity contributes to unstable ecosystems, which have very negative repercussions for us all.
